E-bike interface
Your bike. Your interface.
Kurant replaces your e-bike's display. A small module plugs in where the screen was, and your phone shows speed, power and battery, with settings explained in plain words.
Working prototype. Kickstarter campaign planned: people on the waitlist hear first.
Settings when stopped
How it works
A module between your bike and your phone
The module stays wired to the bike. Your phone connects to it wirelessly and becomes the display.
Runs the motor, battery and sensors.
Keeps the bike running, even if the phone disconnects.
Shows the data and prepares settings.
Plug in the module
Unplug the original display and plug Kurant in its place, with the cable made for your controller. No soldering.
Open the app
The Android app finds the module and recognizes the controller type.
Ride
Data shows live. Settings are changed when stopped.

Depending on the controller, some data may not be available. The app says so instead of showing a made-up value.

Each setting is described in plain words, with its current value, before you change anything.
Safety
The bike never depends on the phone
- No phone
The bike keeps running
The module keeps the link with the controller on its own. A dead phone, a closed app or an update in progress does not cut the assist.
- > 0.5 km/h
No settings while riding
Above 0.5 km/h, or when the speed is unknown, sensitive settings are locked.
- 1.5 s
No frozen values
With no new data for 1.5 seconds, the screen shows “--” instead of an old number.
- Verified
Settings open only after verification
A setting can be changed only once its encoding has been measured on a real controller. The most important ones need a typed confirmation.
- 32 km/h
Street mode by default
Out of the box, speed is limited to your province's legal maximum: 32 km/h in Quebec.
- Offroad
A mode for private land
It switches on only when stopped, with a 1.5-second press followed by a confirmation. On public roads, a bike set above 32 km/h no longer counts as a power-assisted bicycle. The rider is responsible for how this mode is used.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an Android phone?
Yes, at launch. An iPhone version depends on demand. Tell us your phone in the form.
What happens if my phone dies?
The bike keeps working with the assist level you chose. You lose the display until the phone reconnects. A phone mount with charging is recommended.
Does installation need soldering?
No. Kurant plugs into the original display's connector, with a cable made for your controller. Keep the original display: you can plug it back in at any time.
Why aren't Bosch and Shimano supported?
Their systems are closed, and each already offers its own app that turns the phone into a display.
How much will it cost?
The planned price is CAD 159 plus tax, module and app included. During the Kickstarter campaign, the first 100 modules are CAD 129. The app has no subscription.
Do I need an account?
No. The app doesn't ask for an account, and your ride history stays on your phone.
When will Kurant be available?
The prototype works on a bike with a KT controller. Kurant launches through a Kickstarter campaign, shipping in Canada about four months after it ends, to allow for certification and production. The waitlist will hear first.
Why “Kurant”?
From the French courant: the electric current that moves your bike, and being au courant, in the know about everything it does.
